WOW to Bluffton Preserve! Kid Friendly, near Clinton AR. #waterfallsinarkansas
Bluffton Preserve is a little known hidden gem, just a few miles north of Clinton, AR. There are several well maintained multi-use trails here, along with some seasonal waterfalls and a few GREAT views! For more of what to expect on this hike, read on. Double Drop Falls here had been on our radar for a while, and that was the reason for our first visit to Bluffton. I was aware that this one, and the other falls here, are wet weather falls so we'd played a waiting game for a while before visiting. Getting here is surprisingly easy. Yep, it's a few miles of gravel road to drive along as you exit HWY 65, but the road that is Watergate Rd is in very good shape and any 2WD vehicle could easily handle it. The trail to Double Drop Falls is a whopping 1/4 mile round trip and a very easy 1/4 mile at that. Recent rain hadn't been enough for it to be completely showing up for us on this trip though. I was so impressed by this little trail, and the preserve in general, that we decided to explore a little more. We started on the Azalea Hollow trail, which is signed to perfection, although we did find ourselves wandering around a few off shoots to it to explore more! Super Leeds loves a good view, and the one at Emerald Pool lookout was up there with the best for me. We'd had the trail to ourselves, the weather was clearing up and we arrived at the lookout at the perfect time. The sunlight was nicely helping color up Archey Fork Creek below. The multi purpose trails are used by mountain bikers and hikers alike, and are VERY well signed. Bluffton Preserve is very clean, help keep it that way should you visit! Google maps will take you right to the parking spot. Cell phone signal is poor at best in most areas. Keep that in mind before you go, & download any digital maps you may need in advance.
