PUBG - The story behind the skins and trade ban
1 year after the trade ban we still have nothing, the trade ban was originally enforced to combat third party sites selling skins. Pubg themselves started selling items through their ingame store, they come in code form. The resellers just buy these codes and resell them. Every skin that PUBG releases is a time limited exclusive, you can only get them for a short period of time from the store and after that there is no single way of getting those skins anymore. So where do you go if you still want that specific skin? exactly, the third party sites. These third party sites can litteraly ask any price for these items as they are so rare. Would these items have been tradeable on the steam market? these items would be way lower in price, and not only that, these items would still be obtainable for people coming back from breaks. Pubg makes loads of money because they put pressure on their players with this time limited bullshit ''you either buy it now or you'll never get it''. And resellers make absolute bank selling these codes to those that have missed out on it. Once they activate these codes on their account, they can't trade it so its litteraly stuck on their account. Causing the price to skyrocket on the third party sites the more codes get used. Ive come across the argument that the tradeban did decrease cheaters, someone debunked this on Reddit a long time ago with actual statistics that this was not the case. People that cheat for skins just switched to the next best thing which is seasonal cheating. They make a empty steam account with just pubg on it, buy a season pass, cheat their way through the season pass levels as fast as possible. Then offer their account with all seasonal skins on it up for sale. As of right now the trade ban only hurts people with legitimate intentions while Pubg corp cashes in by pressuring their players with a time limit and resellers just go rampant evading the trade ban. Bring back the steam market and stop with all these retarded exclusive skins. Give people that took breaks a fucking chance.
