General Chemistry Lecture 176 - Calculation of Oxidation Number and Equivalent Weight
For hydrogen the oxidation number is +1 (except in ionic hydrides where it is always -1). The oxidation number of oxygen is -2 in general, oxidation number of fluorine is always -1. The oxidation number of alkali metals in all compounds is always +1 and that of alkaline earth elements in all their compounds is always +2.
