Luis Riley Morrison - Gimme shelter

"Gimme Shelter" originally by The Rolling Stones I've had this simple little cover in my pocket for a number of different gigs over the last few years, but I really wanted to share it with everyone at this moment. This track made me absolutely fall in love with the voice of Merry Clayton, and she has been a massive influence on me in terms of where I have wanted to reach as a vocalist. The story of her and her relationship to this song is actually an incredibly tragic and beautiful tale, and I had hoped to reflect that in my own version. The original track is by far one of my favourite songs, and the message within has transcended the era in which it was released. With everything that's happening right now I think it is important that we remember that music isn't just a means to reflect or consume, it is a means to rally and to protest and to make our voices heard. The video of the murder of George Floyd broke me. Yet I can think of numerous times when pals have mentioned incidents or concerns with police here and I've laughed it off. I am determined to become a better person from all this both in myself and outwardly for others. I hope in some capacity sharing this inspires someone else to do the same as others have for me. Anyways yeah, peace. :) #Blacklivesmatter
