Cornflake Apple Crumble
Cornflake Apple Crumble When the weather begins to turn colder, we often start to look out for heartier home comforts. An apple crumble always hits the spot. In this recipe I use a little cinammon to add warmth to the tanginess of the cooking apples. I give the crumble a twist by adding some crunchy cornflakes which works perfectly with apples. You probably don’t need convincing to get cracking with this wonderfully straightforward recipe. It’s one that’s fun to cook and it’s also a great way to get kids involved. Recipe: Serves 4-5 240g plain flour Pinch of salt 160g caster sugar 160g unsalted butter, cut into cubes 20g cornflakes 4-5 cooking apples (750-800g) 100g soft brown sugar 1 tbsp plain flour (for apples) ½ tsp cinammon powder You will need a suitable oven dish/tray, approximately 20cm round or square and 5cm deep Method: 1. Pre-heat oven to 180 2. Cut apples into 1cm pieces and put into a bowl 3. Sprinkle on 1 tablespoon of plain flour onto the apples 4. Add soft brown sugar together with the cinnamon and mix apples well together to coat well with the mixture, leave to one side 5. Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl, add the caster sugar and mix 6. Rub in the butter cubes until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs (should take 1 ½ - 2 minutes) 7. Add the cornflakes to the crumble mixture and mix well gently using your hands, leave to one side 8. Spoon the apple mixture into the bottom of an oven dish/tray 9. Sprinkle the crumble on to the top 10. Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes 11.
