This is what our hitch will look like once it is installed. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 5 3/4 inches. From the the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 11 1/2 inches. Now let's go ahead with the installation. To begin our install we'll first need to lower the exhaust. To safely lower the exhaust we'll put a safety strap underneath first then we'll use some spray lubricant on each one of the rubber isolators totaling 3, one at each muffler and one just forward to the rear axle. We are going to go ahead and use a pry bar, pliers or if you have an exhaust hangar removal tool to remove the rubber isolator from the metal hangar. Next we can go ahead and use the safety strap to safely lower the weight of the exhaust. We've gain access to the underside of the frame rails. Here there are 2 predrilled holes or slots in the frame. Be utilizing this as our attachment points for a total of 4 attachments points, two on each side. We'll be using the 7 1/16 carriage bolt and block along with the 7 1/16 conical tooth washer and nut. To get our hardware into the frame and into position we'll use a 7/16 pull wire provided with the install kit. Now with our pull wire coming out of the access hole or slot in the frame, we'll slide on the block and thread on the carriage bolt. We'll feed the block into the frame, followed by the carriage bolt. Then we'll pull them into position and remove the pull wire. Now with our forward attachment in place, we are ready to go ahead and install the rear attachment point. For this we'll use the reverse pull wire procedure by sliding the block onto the pull wire and then threading on the carriage bolt. We'll feed the carriage bolt up into the frame first followed by the block and then pull them back down into position. Now we'll leave the pull wire on the rear attachment point as it will make it easier to get our hitch up into position without pushing our hardware back up into the frame. Note each process we do to one side we'll get repeated identically on the opposite side. Now we are ready to go ahead and install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. Raise the hitch up into position feeding the pull wire through the rear attachment point. Lining up the forward attachment point being careful not to push it back into the frame. Once into position flat against the frame rail we can go ahead and install the conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch and the 7 1/16 inch nut. Once installed, these fasteners finger tight until we have them all in place. With the rear attachment point we'll remove the pull wire and then install the conical tooth washer and nut. Now with all our hardware in place we can go ahead and tighten it down. Next we'll go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with the hitch secured and torque to specifications we can go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. With that this will complete the install of the draw tite hitch part number 24865 on our 2012 Lincoln MKZ. .
