Aspergers Syndrome on House MD S03E04 "Lines in the Sand"

Dr. Wilson on House MD reads a description of Aspergers Syndrome. He mentions "broadloom" because of Dr. House's absurd demand to get the old carpet put back in after the carpet in his office was replaced. I saw a psychologist many years ago because I was required to in order to get help from an employment service for disabled people on account of my impaired vision, and I was diagnosed with Aspergers. Whether it is a valid category or not, I don't believe this is a disability and I don't think I have very much in common with most people with autism. In my opinion, this "Aspergers Syndrome" is not so much a disability or a disorder as it is an annoying personality type, or simply a different way of looking at the world. Not a better way or a worse way, just a different way. Aspergers is very different from what most people understand autism to be. Autism is generally a disability / disorder, but Aspergers, not so much. If the whole world was made up of people with Aspergers Syndrome then the world would get along just fine and there would probably even be greater achievements in some areas of science and art. This is generally not the case for other things often considered to be a disability / disorder, so we're dealing with something fairly odd and different from most psychological conditions. Social problems only arise because some people have Aspergers traits while other people around them don't, which tends to lead to mutual misunderstanding. So rather than a 'cure for Aspergers', the way to deal with this is to create educational programs to help children with Aspergers learn the things about how to interpret emotions and social cues that they don't know which neurotypical children don't have to be taught, and for people to just try to understand that someone with Aspergers will sometimes have trouble interpreting and factoring in other people's emotional states into their thought process -- and that this is usually completely without malice. They're also likely to leave other children far behind in terms of academic achievement in most school subjects if they get the right kind of education. So in summary, Aspergers people are better in some areas, deficient in others and ... wait a minute, aren't we all better in some areas and deficient in others? I'm pretty sure that's inherent in the human condition. The only difference with Aspergers is that those strong and weak points are a little more pronounced, often in both directions. http://house.wikia.com/wiki/Lines_in_the_Sand https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome
