Nasty intersection overtake - DNT1
First of all, I should point out that not everyone on the road is a selfish dick. The driver of the black Nissan Micra at 0:15 stopped and waved me into the intersection, after first waving the car ahead of me into the intersection. He got at least one friendly wave in return. As for the driver of the red Toyota Estima (DNT1), let's see what the police can do to keep the roads safe from this inconsiderate and dangerous driver... Improper use of lanes? (must drive as far as practicable entirely within a lane) http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2004/0427/latest/DLM303043.html Careless or inconsiderate driving? http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1998/0110/latest/DLM434514.html Unsafe passing? http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2004/0427/latest/DLM303048.html Illegal passing? http://www.legislation.govt.nz/regulation/public/2004/0427/latest/DLM303050.html As per usual, I've got two daytime-visible rear lights, hi-viz ankle bands, hi-viz vest, bright yellow pannier bags, etc. And of course it's early afternoon with bright sun. When the police interview the driver, I hope she'll say she didn't see anyone on a bike. That'll make a "careless driving" charge easy for the police. Before anyone compliments me for keeping cool, just bear in mind that I only used audio from the rear camera, not the helmet camera. The rear camera is a HERO2 in a waterproof case, and picks up very little audio other than noise transmitted through the bike frame. I did keep my cool when I caught up to the driver at the light, just giving them a "WTF?" look and gesture. The response seemed to be a combination of "what did I do?" and "piss off." Bike handling was a bit rough, with both pannier bags filled with groceries. Not bad when it's moving, but starting and stopping, especially when trying to do both at the same time and pointing downhill, not so smooth.
