230521 - Sunday Awakening Heart - Elena Gerhardt - Exploring Meditation and Lucid Dreaming
The notion of "waking up" is found in various traditions and frameworks - the Yoga Sutras or Buddhist teachings, to name a few examples. Rooted in Tibetan Buddhist teachings, the yogas of sleep and dreams resemble techniques to awaken inside the dreaming world while asleep. In the 1980s, scientists first objectively verified the state of having reflective consciousness inside the dullness of the dreaming mind called lucid dreaming. Lucid Dreaming is the moment of becoming aware that one is dreaming while still being asleep. The scientific definition of mindfulness resembles similarities with lucid dreaming: Becoming aware of one's own thoughts, inner processes, and sensations while observing the contents of consciousness every moment-by-moment within a resting awareness. Practicing meditation has a tremendous amount of significant effects on mental and physical health. Practicing and growing inner qualities through meditation can be very nourishing in general, but also beneficial for the nighttime practices of lucid dreaming. Both daytime and nighttime practices open the avenue for inner insight, spiritual growth, and the exploration of consciousness. ––––––––– The Dallas Meditation Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is lovingly supported by generous donations from the in-person and online community.
