Airplanes taking off at Luton Airport - Canon Legria HF R67 Test
After eating and drinking far too much over Christmas we thought we had better go and get a bit of exercise and take the dog for a walk to Wigmore Park in Luton and watch some planes taking off at Luton Airport. Thought it was the ideal test for my Christmas present to myself, a cheap £250 Canon Legria camcorder. It's a tiny little thing which boasts a massive zoom (2500+) which I thought would be a bit crappy as much of that is digital. However, I am shocked at how well it performed, especially in the low winter sun that was just getting ready to set. I also thought the IS - Image Stabilization would be suspect too but again it out-performed my expectations. You have to remember that these shots are zoomed in a hell of a long way and it's pretty stable considering - try zooming in with your iphone and see what happens - shakesville. Considering I can fit this little camera into my coat pocket and it weighs about the same as my iPhone and once I get Canon's cashback of £30 (final cost £220) I think it is an awesome bit of kit for that kind of money. The only criticism I have is that the auto focus is quite slow and a bit unreliable but let's get real here, it's a cheap video camera. Luton airport does seem to have become EasyJet and Wizz airport now with the odd Monarch and Thompson thrown in. When I was a kid there was a lot more to see!
