This filling recipe is good for a GENEROUSLY filled regular to a large sized single challah, or 2 decently filled challah! (sizes based from a standard challah recipe with about 1000g, or 7 to 8 cups of flour) Apple Filling Ingredients: 🍏 4 medium to large apples (3 granny smith, 1 sweet red apple of your choice) 🍏 1/4 cup salted butter 🍏 2 to 2 1/2 Tbs of flour (depending on how thick you want filling) 🍏 2 Tbs water 🍏 1/4 cup cane sugar 🍏 1/4 brown sugar 🍏 1 Tbs cinnamon 🍏 Dash of nutmeg Directions: 1. On medium low heat, melt butter completely, then add flour to form a paste. Let it cook for about 1 to 2 min 2. Add sugar, brown sugar, water & mix thoroughly to form a nice sauce 3. Add cinnamon & nutmeg & mix again 4. Add peeled/de-cored/sliced/chopped apples to sauce & incorporate apples thoroughly. Make sure to coat them well. At this point, I like to sprinkle extra cinnamon & brown sugar for fun 🤭 I like a little extra sweetness, so you can keep adding if you want it sweeter or refrain from adding if you want it just the way it is 5. On medium low to medium heat, allow apples to come to a low simmer & cook for about 10 min. Keep an eye on this part as you don't want the apples to become overly done & soft! You're looking for a cooked apple w/ still a slight crunch, not completely mushy! 6. Once simmered, apple filling should be a nice smooth, almost caramel like paste. Allow filling to cool to room temp before filling challah 🍯 Honey Egg wash: 1 egg, 2 tsp water, tiny dash of salt, 1 generous Tbs honey Find me on Instagram! @challahatchagirl https://www.instagram.com/challahatchagirl/ If you give this #RoundChallah tutorial a try, I'd LOVE to hear from you below! 👇🏼 And if you have pictures to share, I'd LOVE to see them!
