Optoma HD141X DLP Projector Repair | Shuts Down | Color Wheel Issues (mislabeled as a 142x)

This Optoma HD141x (vdhdnl) was sent in via my day job after the owner purchased a new lamp and still had the same results. After some troubleshooting via email, it was determined it was better sent in. It had the color wheel replaced last year but it was only running for a short erratic period and shut down. I refer to it in the video as a HD142x but that is incorrect. I had planned on changing the color wheel but remained skeptical that a 1yr old color wheel had failed. It turned out the color wheel sensor was encased in a weird dark dirt. The whole projector had what looked like smoke residue or exhaust residue everywhere. I have seen lots of types of dust inside of things but this was something unusual. I still don't quite know what it was but I suspect it was smoke of some sort mixed with dust. There were some other surprises like the speaker cabinet screw in the center and some missing screws. Luckily it was able to be saved and was returned a few days later. Here is a lamp for this model, use code YT50 for 5% off. https://www.purelandsupply.com/optoma-projector-lamp_hd142x.html The cat in the thumbnail is Wonton.
