APC 400watt UPS extended runtime mod
In a previous video I showed how to “fix” 90% of problems with UPS that people throw away by replacing the battery. Today I take one of the free UPS’s that I have acquired and make it have an incredible runtime by hooking it up to the main house batteries of my RV. This unit comes with a 7 amp hour battery that can run it for about 30 minutes. The house batteries of my RV are 700 amp hours so that gives it a lot more run time and one fewer battery that I have to care about or replace. I also do a quick mod to pull the highly annoying pizo speaker out that goes off every time the unit flips to battery mode. I had to add a large capacitor because the voltage sag was too great when the unit flipped from line to inverter leading it to believe the battery was drained, and it would shut off. Now it transitions as expected.
