Moving Broken Sprinkler Head with New Sprinkler Head and Swing Joint

It's an old system so I know that the old sprinkler head is connected with a riser and it's kinda crooked. I always like to install a swing joint so we can get it straight up and down. Alright. Here we go!!! 0:30 Checking out the broken sprinkler head that has bad seals. 0:36 Starting the actual work of digging in speed mode. 1:09 So let's take a look at a few of our parts first. This is a swing joint. It's flexible. It can get run over, stepped on and it won't break. 1:22 Here we have a PVC elbow one inch slip to 1/2 inch thread. 1:24 Four inch sprinkler pop up head and a 2 inch pop up. Not sure what we are going to use so I grabbed both of them. It's preferable to use the four inch. This way the grass won't block the water when it starts growing. 1:46 Caveman measuring skills to make sure there is enough room for the sprinkler head to swing down into place. 2:02 Cutting pipe with the wrong cutter. Make sure to use a ratcheting PVC pipe cutter. It is much faster and easier with the right tool. 2:19 Clean dirt of the PVC pipe. I just used my hand. The primer will get the rest of it. 2:26 Applying primer to PVC pipe and fitting. 2:45 Applying glue to the PVC pipe and fitting. Quickly install the glued fitting and turn 90 degrees fitting to the correct position. This helps spread the glue evenly. 3:06 Thread on your swing joint to the PVC fitting and the new sprinkler head onto the swing joint. It does not need any teflon tape. The black plastic is soft enough that it seals the threads when tightened down, only hand tight. 3:14 Back fill you newly installed irrigation head and swing joint. Make sure to back dirt all around the head so it doesn't move 3:33 Almost done!!! Install the appropriate nozzle and filter for best coverage. 4:30 Final check. Turn on the system and make sure it works properly.
