The Foundation for Academics An academic oath is included in the academic tradition, it is an academic "Bible" that the academics swear to observe all their life. If you promise to be honest, you are honest as an academic all your life inside or outside of the University. It is a part of initiation. Two Universities have a good example of an academic oath: 1. Saint-Petersburg State University. “Today, joining the ranks of university students, I recognize that the free development and happiness of every person is a prerequisite for social well-being and harmony, and the common good is the goal to which every person should strive, regardless of religious, national, racial, political, or social motives. Today, accepting the high honor and responsibility associated with the name of the university, I swear to carefully preserve and develop the traditions of enlightenment and humanism, to sacredly observe the laws of the university fraternity and, according to my strength and my understanding, to selflessly serve the cause of the prosperity of the mind.” 2. The Medical University of Gdansk. "‘Joining the academic community of the Medical University of Gdańsk, I solemnly swear I shall: seek the truth, the cornerstone of all science, persevere in acquiring knowledge and skills, pursue research and perform my teaching duties with utmost diligence, abide by the academic standards, principles of university community life, and academic customs, preserve the good name of the University and the dignity of the doctoral student."
