"40 Million Dollar Slaves," with Bomani Jones — Race Scholars at Rice
On March 7, 2013, Race Scholars at Rice—a program of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University—held an event called "Dialogue Partners," in which graduate students, postdocs, faculty, and other members of the Rice community read and discuss a book broadly related to issues of race. This semester, we discussed William C. Rhoden's 2006 book _40 Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall, and Redemption of the Black Athlete_ (Crown Publishers). For this event we were joined in our discussion by media personality Bomani Jones (www.bomanijones.com), and had a wide ranging discussion on issues of race, labor, and exploitation in the sports world, at both the collegiate and professional levels. *Please note: we have edited some video out during the first 5 minutes as a result of microphone/audio issues, but no questions or answers have been deleted.* http://kinder.rice.edu/rsr/ http://www.bomanijones.com
