My Sony TV Can't Read USB!
My Sony TV can't read USB! That's not that hard, since it is only three letters. Are you using a USB cable or USB memory stick? I'd expect way worse errors if I was using the wrong type of connector – in fact, it likely wouldn't fit in the USB port. I've heard of this happening if you have problems with the bus controller on the USB. Plug it into the computer, and if the computer can't read it either, you need to reformat the USB drive The computer can read it. It had to or I wouldn't have been able to copy files to it. So do a full format of the flash drive, not a quick format, to read and write over every cell of the drive. So you think the issue is due to bad sectors on the drive. Or it is due to bad formatting of the USB drive. For example, the USB drive for use on most Sony TVs needs to be formatted FAT32. I think that's how it is formatted. Some TVs can read NTFS too, but check what your Sony TV model can read before you format the drive that way. I don't think it is due to the USB formatting, because this is a new issue. Remember that the TV can also only recognize certain file types. For example, it can read MP4. I may need to do a file conversion to get it to that format. Read your user manual to see what file formats it needs to be in for the TV to be able to play it. And if you do have to convert it, a bad conversion will generate the errors you're seeing. I've heard there are connection types or devices it can't read. Back in 2012, I know the Sony Bravia could only read FAT formatted flash and HDD drives. The newer models are smarter. My TV isn't old enough to have that problem. And I'd hate that problem, because the FAT 32 file system wouldn't let you save large file sizes that could hold a high definition movie. I know the older TVs couldn't read HDD external drives formatted in NTFS that could only read it if Ex Fat. Ex Fat sounds like a diet plan, not a bad file type that made it really hard to watch downloaded movies without saving it in pieces to five different folders or partitions. I've also heard of this error coming up if the Hard Drive takes more power than the TV can provide. The solution to that is plugging in the hard drive into its own power source instead of asking the TV to try to power itself and the drive. The TV may not be able to read the USB drive when you've downloaded corrupted firmware updates to the thumb drive, so the solution is deleted and re-downloading the firmware update to the drive. And then hope the TV recognizes and loads it. Or download the files like the firmware updates to a different USB drive and try to upload it that way, just in case it is the USB stick that's bad. I'm not trying to run updates, but I may need to in order to fix this. If it can't read the USB drive no matter what formatting or file type you have, see if there's something broken in the thumb drive or dirt in the TV's USB port. Or I need to get someone to fix the TV.
