In november Global Aktion together with gas activists Esteban Servat and Louise wagner exposed the climate fraud of so-called "clean gas". The European gas lobby wants us to believe that natural gas is "an important part of the green transition" as it emits less carbon dioxide than other fossil fuels and is therefore claimed to be more "environmentally friendly." However, the extraction of natural gas is a major cause of methane emissions, a gas that is actually much more damaging than carbon dioxide. But not only is gas not nearly as green as we are being led to believe: The extraction of gas also causes severe human rights violations, especially in the Global South. In short, Europe is outsourcing its emissions to the rest of the world, at the expense of the people who have contributed the least to the climate catastrophe.
