Windows Vista Media Center plays everything

The windows media center can play all kinds of video formats, including avi, divx, flv, swf, rm/rmvb, mov, wmv, mpg, mp4, mkv, ts, vcd/dat, DVD/vob, etc... Here is how to do it: 1) install xp codec pack (or vista codec pack if you are using vista) 2) install real alternatives 3) install halli media splitter 4) reboot machine After installing all the above, play your videos using the "media player classic" that came with the xp/vista codec pack. It should be able to play all the video formats listed above. Now, the next step is to make the windows media center recognize these video formats and display them in its video library.
