Ubuntu Raspberry Pi Desktop 20.10 - 64 bit linux for the Raspberry Pi with the Gnome Desktop
The latest version of Ubuntu is now 20.10 and with it, there is now an official Raspberry Pi desktop image. This is the full 64-bit operating system with the Gnome desktop. The same as you would run on a PC or laptop but compiled for the ARM processor on the Raspberry Pi 4. This is groovy gorilla edition. #raspberrypi #ubuntu There have been server images of Ubuntu for the Raspberry Pi previously, but this is the first time they have released a full desktop image, which is now included in the Raspberry Pi imager. I have already created a review of the Ubuntu 20.10 server edition for the Raspberry Pi (based on the beta image) which is available at: https://youtu.be/Njgw0U6Lk00 In that video I go through the process of setting up Ubuntu as a web server. In this video I go through the steps in installing the operating system image onto an SD card (minimum 9GB free space - ie. 16GB SD card or higher) and then running it on a Raspberry Pi 4 (minimum 4GB RAM). Once it's installed I complete the setup and then install openssh server and x11vnc to allow remote console access through ssh and remote desktop access using VNC. This is not as simple as RealVNC used under Raspberry Pi OS, but is a good way to get graphical access to the Raspberry Pi. I then take a quick look at the installed applications including Firefox and LibreOffice and through the process of install GIMP.
